The Federal Fire Occurrence Website provides users with the ability to query, research and download wildland fire occurrence data.  The data available through this website contains over 844,883 fire records collected by Federal land management agencies for fires that occurred from 1980 through 2016 in the United States.


Users of this site can examine and download federal fire occurrence data in several ways.

  • Download all fire occurrence reports by agency in shapefile or compressed file geodatabase format for the time period 1980 to 2016.
  • Examine and query fire occurrence reports through a map viewer, and download the data that meets your requirements in shapefile format.  The data can be queried and downloaded based upon the following attributes:
      • Start date
      • Size class
      • GACC
      • State
      • Fire type
      • Protection type
      • Cause
      • Statistical cause
      • Specific cause
      • Agency

    The fire occurrence data layer compiled for this application is a collection of fire records from the following five federal agencies under the United States Department of Interior (DOI) and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA):

    Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA)
    Bureau of Land Management (BLM)
    U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS)
    National Park Service (NPS)
    U.S. Forest Service (USFS)
